The ‘Close the Data Gap: Gender Equity in Transport Research’ working group is a collaboration between sixteen Associate Professors, Research Fellows, Visiting Researchers, Research Technicians, and PhD students from the Transportation Research Group, Electronics and Computer Science, and the Web Science Institute, all of whom are linked to the University of Southampton and conduct research closely related to transport. The group was founded by Kirsten Madeira-Revell in June 2020 in response to the book Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men (Criado-Perez, 2019). This exposed the gender bias that exists in current research, including the perpetuating gender bias within the transportation sector.
