Katie Plant

Iā€™m Katie and Iā€™m a lecturer within the Human Factors Engineering Team and Co-investigator on the Open Flight Deck project. I was inspired to join this group after reading ‘Invisible Woman’ by Caroline Criado-Perez. In my academic work, I am interested in understanding how the interaction between the environment and our mental schemas influences our actions and decision-making. I strongly believe this interaction needs to be modelled on an equal number of females and males to represent the individual differences of both genders and ultimately close the data gap!

I have previously worked on numerous aviation projects, including ALICIA and i-VISION, looking at the application of Human Factor methods to design and evaluate future flight deck technologies and aviation processes. Alongside this project work, I completed a PhD looking at aeronautical decision making using the Perceptual Cycle Model.
