We are all different.

We may be going to different places or be travelling for different reasons, be travelling at different times or be in different amounts of rush, yet we all need to use the same transport system.

I have worked in transport research for over twenty years, and been part of the steady progression from models where people were represented as identical clones to models that reflect reality of diversity. It is frequently clear that we need to understand the different needs of individuals and potential underlying biases in all their forms to truly achieve a transport system for everyone.

Borrowing a quote that was originally about education, but could equally apply to gaps in knowledge in transport systems:

“I raise up my voice, not so I can shout but so that those without a voice can be heard…we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” (Malala Yousafzai)
